The word 'Corangamite' is an Aboriginal word for 'bitter' which the Shire adopted from Lake Corangamite, the shores of which form part of the Shire's eastern boundary. The Council's logo represents an ibis, a common bird in this region, flying over the undulating hills and lakes of the land.
