| Abstract: | In May 1996, the Kaurareg People lodged five native title claims over parts of Ngurupai (Horn Island), Murulag (Prince of Wales Island), Tarilag (Packe Island), Yeta (Port Lihou Island), Damaralag (Dumuralug Iset) and Mipa (Pipa Islet, also known as Turtle Island). The determinations of native title are really a starting point for a new relationship between the Kaurareg People and the wider community. It is the beginning of a new time in which the native title rights of the Kaurareg People are recognised and protected. |
| Notes: | The NNTT, with the assistance of the parties has produced this booklet to help explain what the five consent determinations reached in May 2001 mean to for the local Kaurareg community. |
