Summary Information:
Oyster Cove was declared an Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) in July 1999.The IPA covers 32 hectares and is managed by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. The area was returned to the Tasmanian Aboriginal community under the Aboriginal Lands Act 1995. Management of the land includes removing exotic weeds, feral cats and rabbits. Forests in the area contain nocturnal mammals, reptiles and birds, and the wetland mudflats contain crabs, oysters and mussels.
Detailed Information:
Further management activities include revegetation projects, interpretation of cultural sites, establishment of walking tracks for visitors and general visitor management. Work is conducted in accordance with a land management plan with an emphasis on environmental rehabilitation and sustainable land use.
