|The Warmun 'School Attendance and Healthy Activities' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is aimed at providing healthy activities for young people in the Warmun Aboriginal community, as well as improving school attendance through the installation of a swimming pool to be run under a 'no school, no pool' rule.|
Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
The SRA will provide a pool for the Warmun community. The pool will be a meeting place for the community and regular swimming activities will improve local children's health. The 'no school, no pool rule' will encourage children to go to school.
The local community will train to look after the pool and run swimming activities.
The Commonwealth Government will provide funds for the pool's construction and operation.
The Western Australian Government will also fund construction and operating costs.
|The Koori Mail reported on Wednesday 23 April 2008 that the Warmun pool had been formally opened.|
