|The community at Billiluna has signed two Shared Responsibility Agreements (SRAs) to provide community facilities and healthy activities for young people. The 'Health Activities' SRA facilitates a regular sporting program in Billiluna. Billiluna is also part of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) trial SRAs. |
Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
The SRA aims to provide healthy activities for young people outside of school hours.
Under the SRA, the community at Billiluna will arrange three or four sporting activities a week. For a period of three months, activities will be held after school and on weekends, and will be supervised by community members.
The Commonwealth government will provide $3000 towards new sporting equipment for the community.
The Billiluna SRAs are administered by the Kununurra Indigenous Coordination Centre.
