    The powers and functions of IHANT include:

  • The establishment of policies and guidelines for the delivery of services and programs; and
  • The determination of a three year rolling operational plan.

    IHANT has a board which meets at least four times a year and is comprised of:
  • Nine elected members of ATSIC including the two ATSIC Northern Territory Commissioners and the chairpersons of the seven Territory ATSIC Regional Councils;
  • Up to seven appointed members of the Northern Territory Government including representatives from the Department of Community Development, Sport and Cultural Affairs, the Department of Health and Community Services and the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Environment; and
  • One appointed member from the Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services.
  • Detailed Information:
    IHANT's fundamental objective is the achievement of better housing for Indigenous people, to be accomplished by Indigenous people themselves making decisions about their own housing; by cooperative working relationships existing between all levels of government; and by the achievement of maximum outcomes through the pooling of funding from all levels of government.
