|The Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of New South Wales (AH&MRC) provides health and health-related services and 'is the recognized peak body and voice of Aboriginal communities on Aboriginal health matters in NSW.' |
It is formed by more than 60 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations in New South Wales and is a member of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO). The AH&MRC is incorporated as a charitable, religious and educational institution.
The principal aim of AH&MRC is 'to ameliorate ill health, suffering, distress and helplessness in Aboriginal communities by the direct provision of primary health care'.
The AH&MRC was established in 1985 and was formerly known as the Aboriginal Health Research Co-operative (AHRC).
